The 440b high-carbon chromium steel of stainless steel has the characteristic properties of high strength and corrosion resistance. Its chemical composition is 0.6-0.75% carbon and 16-18% chromium, and contains traces of manganese, silicon and phosphorus. Some of its properties are: it has tensile strength and corrosion resistance are very good while the corrosion resistance is moderate; and it has high temperature stability. It is capable of heating treatment to increase hardness. This makes it useful for applications requiring sharp edges and resistance to wear and tear.
