Stainless Steel 317 sheets and plates are crafted from a special austenitic chromium-nickel-molybdenum alloy (UNS S31700) that stands out for its exceptional resistance to corrosion, especially in environments with chlorides, sulfur compounds, and acidic substances. Thanks to its higher molybdenum content, it offers enhanced protection against issues like pitting, crevice corrosion, and chemical attacks, making it a more robust choice compared to standard 316 grades.
Typically, the chemical makeup includes 18–20% chromium, 11–15% nickel, 3–4% molybdenum, up to 2% manganese, and a maximum of 0.08% carbon. In terms of mechanical properties, it boasts a tensile strength of around 515 MPa, a yield strength of 205 MPa, and an elongation of about 35%, which ensures excellent formability and toughness.
