The AWS E630‑16 electrode is a specialized stick welding electrode made from precipitation-hardened martensitic stainless steel. It’s perfect for welding and repairing alloys like 17‑4 PH (UNS S17400) and 17‑7 stainless steels. This electrode meets the AWS A5.4 / ASME SFA 5.4 standards and adheres to UNS W37410 specifications. To get the best strength and toughness, it’s recommended to preheat, control interpass temperatures, and apply post-weld heat treatment. With its high-performance weld deposits, this electrode is ideal for tough industrial applications that demand corrosion resistance, high strength, and durability.
When it comes to the typical weld metal composition, you’ll find carbon at 0.03–0.05%, chromium at 16–16.75%, nickel at 4.5–5%, copper at 3.25–4%, niobium/tantalum at 0.15–0.30%, manganese at 0.25–0.75%, and silicon up to 0.75%. After the right post-weld heat treatment, the mechanical properties include a tensile strength of up to 930–1,000 MPa and an elongation of about 7%, resulting in incredibly strong and durable welds in a precipitation-hardened state.
