The AWS E410‑16 electrode is a specialized stick welding consumable made from martensitic stainless steel, perfect for welding or surfacing various alloy stainless steels like types 410, 416, and 420. It’s also great for overlaying carbon or low-alloy steels when you need extra protection against abrasion, corrosion, or wear. This electrode meets the AWS A5.4 / ASME SFA 5.4 standards and adheres to UNS W41010 specifications. For the best results, it’s recommended to preheat to around 200 °C and maintain controlled interpass temperatures, with post-weld heat treatment often necessary to achieve the best mechanical properties. You can count on this electrode to perform reliably even in tough fabrication settings.
When it comes to the typical weld metal composition, you can expect about 0.09% carbon, 12% chromium, 0.45% nickel, 0.55% manganese, and 0.30% silicon. After proper post-weld heat treatment, the mechanical properties include a tensile strength of around 555 MPa, a yield strength of about 307 MPa, and an elongation of roughly 24% over a 2-inch gauge. This ensures that the welds are not only strong but also durable and resistant to wear.
